The Reimel Blog · This Week in the Market
Collectors are spending. They're just picky.
The collector car market is still strong. Last week proved it, and it also proved that the buyers writing the biggest checks only want the best of the best. Putting a car in an auction doesn't mean it's going to set a record.
Three Ford GTs, $1.2 million apart
Three 2005–06 Ford GTs sold last week:

588-mile 2006 Heritage Edition · Mecum ($1,525,000 hammer + 10%)

2,000-mile 2005 · Bring a Trailer

One-owner 2005, 45,000 miles, modified · Bring a Trailer
Same car, same engine, same gearbox. The Heritage, in Gulf-inspired blue and orange and one of 343 built, has always been the one to own, and a low-mileage example is the most desirable car of that generation. Collectors are going after exactly those cars. Mileage and originality put a $335,000 gap between the two standard cars. The Heritage livery and sub-600 miles more than doubled that.

Today on Bring a Trailer: a 559-mile 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition. It closes this afternoon, and we’ll update this post with the result. It follows a 554-mile Heritage that was bid to $1.4 million and not sold on October 19, and an 8-mile, one-owner car that sold for $2.1 million in August.
The no-sales: shooting for the stars
The other side of the week was at Mecum, where a run of expensive modern cars went home unsold.

2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Weissach, 4,000 miles: bid to $770,000, not sold. A lower-mile Weissach sold on Bring a Trailer the same week for $725,000. Add a buyer’s premium to $770,000 and that’s a very big number. The seller was reaching for a record.

2022 Ferrari 812 GTS, 7,000 miles: bid to $825,000, not sold. It’s a big build with an extra-cost color and plenty of options, but it isn’t a pretty spec, and 7,000 miles isn’t low. Two 812 GTSs sold on Bring a Trailer the same week, for $801,000 and $678,000.

2025 Lamborghini Revuelto, 1,000 miles: bid to $750,000, not sold. Special color, low miles, big ask. Cars like this are very cool, but they’re used hypercars and they depreciate. They aren’t collector cars yet. Take one to a collector auction and the spec has to be perfect, and this interior wasn’t.

1999 Ferrari 550 Maranello, 14,000 miles: bid to $450,000, not sold. Great color and a strong bid, and the seller still turned it down.

2015 Ferrari 458 Spider, 3,000 miles: bid to $600,000, not sold. Great colors and low miles, but that’s a huge number for a 458 Spider to walk away from. It looks like a swing at a record.
Two F12berlinettas, not sold at $575,000 and $510,000. The 2014 car appeared to have modifications to the hood, roof and trunk, and collectors don’t pay up for modified cars. A pure, unmodified F12 is what the market wants.

What it means
Collectors are not afraid to spend the money. Last week’s Heritage result shows that. But they’re picky, and it has to be the right car: the right spec, the right colors, the right miles, no modifications and a clear history. Bring the right car and the market will pay for it. Bring anything less with a record-setting reserve and you’ll probably take it home.
If you’re thinking about selling, start with an honest read on where your car sits in that order. We’ll tell you what we think it will bring and how we’d sell it.
