Reimel Motor Cars is proud to offer this exceptionally restored Bugatti Type 57C, chassis 57597 — a rare and historically rich jewel in the marque's storied lineage.

This Type 57C, documented by renowned expert Pierre-Yves Laugier, was built in late 1937 and rolled off the factory line equipped with engine 18C — placing it among the earliest examples of the supercharged “C” variants. Clad in Gangloff's distinguished third-series Stelvio open coachwork, it features a beautifully rounded tail evocative of the coveted Atalante bodies. Delivered in February 1938 to marque agent Pierre Monestier in Lyon, the car soon passed to local attorney Jean d'Aubarede, replacing his previous Labourdette-bodied Type 57 with this stunning new Stelvio.

Laugier's research reveals the car returned to Molsheim for service in early 1939. During WWII, it was reportedly requisitioned and not returned — resurfacing in the mid-1950s in Lyon under a new registration. In November 1957, it was brokered by Henri Malartre to noted Bugatti collector Jean-Louis du Montant of Antibes. Intriguingly, at a garage in Nice, du Montant is believed to have swapped its supercharged engine with that of chassis 57809 — leaving this car with engine 82C ever since.

Upon du Montant's passing in 1961, his widow offered the Bugatti for sale, leading to its acquisition by Beverly Hills cardiologist Dr. Richard Roger in early 1963. The car arrived in the U.S. in June 1963, resplendent in blue and silver, and remained in Dr. Roger's care until 1978.

Gary Tiscornia of Michigan then commissioned a full restoration, with Bob Lorkowski rebuilding the chassis and Bunny Phillips refreshing the engine. Inside, the car was finished in teal upholstery and paint. The restoration paid dividends, winning its class at the 1989 Pebble Beach Concours and earning perfect scores at three separate CCCA events.

The car later entered The Blackhawk Collection, before being acquired in 2000 by Palm Springs collector Robert Pond. After his passing, a Beverly Hills physician offered the car at RM Monterey in August 2014, where it was purchased by acclaimed collector Greg Manocherian. Manocherian commissioned marque specialist Scott Sargent for an extensive two-year restoration — including a refreshed, elegant two-tone paint scheme.

Most recently, in August 2019, a devoted Bugatti enthusiast from New Jersey acquired the Type 57C and further honed its condition, enlisting John Estell, Scott Sargent, Steven Babinsky, and Jim Stranberg for fine-tuning. As of its February 2025 service, chassis 57597 retains the correct Type 57C supercharged engine, consistent with the swap completed in the early 1960s.
